Are you a hands-on fullstack web engineer, who is ready to lead and build a team, while we predict the future of AI in shipping? The whole shipping ecosystem of cargo ships and global freighters is loaded with inefficiencies and poor environmental choices that our cloud-based application and deterministic optimization algorithms are revolutionizing.
We are now ready for someone to take our complex product and advanced team to the next level, from an engineering perspective. Does this sound appetizing, or terrifying? Operators are standing by.
Seaber.io: based in Espoo, Finland, we are digitally transforming the centuries old shipping industry with an intelligent technology providing data-led decision support to optimize fleet utilization and reduce the impact on our precious environment.
We have been doing this for 7 years, and we’re at a tipping point between start-up and scale-up. (um, ok we recognize the word ‘tipping’ should never be used when describing anything to do with shipping. Let this illustrate our intelligent sense of humor amidst a serious industry and seriously cool product).
We have the brain capacity, we have great people, we work incredibly well together in a smooth virtual environment of remote workers. We’re organized, our processes work, in fact would you believe it’s not a mess, at all? (this is usually the case when a company recruits a Head of Engineering, but not here). Things work great today, but what about tomorrow..?
These are very complex algorithms which take in a lot of data and turn that into decision making support for users. We will be leveraging machine learning and AI later but for now this is a rules based expert system for well-defined and separate problems to solve. Our team has worked great together in wearing many hats, and now we are smoothening out the wrinkles of development.
So, we are looking for a hands on engineer who has worked on complex products before, and who is also very deep in the code. Some may think this sounds more like a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, but considering we also want this person to be a ‘shaper’ (in that we will want this person to help us scale, soon, as said), we think Head of Engineering has a nice ring to it.
You will be approximately 50-70% hands on working with code. And hei, you won’t need to take every single ticket or solve every problem we have, rather you are someone who can jump in to our smooth flow and occasionally take more abstract tasks that don’t involve writing code, in order to fix a well-defined problem. What else…..you will take the lead on partnership projects; you will go to customer meetings to represent the dev team. And lastly: you will embrace our positive spirit, and propel us forward, with vigor!
- Proven Web dev experience, building complex products
- Tech stack: React, Node.js, GraphQL, Postgres, Typescript
- Great English skills
- Great problem solver (you embrace engineering challenges actually)
- Based in Finland is preferred
